Bauhaus Townhouse | Cambridge, MA

This new-construction townhouse came to my clients as a blank slate. This lovely family was looking to add color and personality to an otherwise modern white box, while still keeping everything dog-and-toddler-friendly. Inspired by graphic Bauhaus elements, their eclectic collection of art and travel trinkets, and lots of soft organic shapes, we started pulling together a palette that felt energizing and playful, while still remaining warm and approachable. The ground-floor living, dining, kitchen and powder room spaces were the first to get attention. The open-plan double-height space gets really amazing sunlight, so we washed the walls and ceiling in a warm milky shoji-screen white. We added rust-toned floor-to-ceiling mesh sheers that helped created a little extra drama in the double-height space. Lots of live plants, art and family photos are scattered throughout. We also made sure to repeatedly incorporate punchy accent colors, soft dimmable light fixtures and an eclectic mix of furniture, which ultimately led to the creation of a super fun living room.

Completed Fall 2025.
